Happy New Year my Fellow Gearys Brides!
In typical LA fashion, it is early February and the sun is shining brightly upon our gorgeous city. It’s 2011 and we are already off to an excellent start this year with many exciting changes happening here at Gearys! First and foremost, I’d like to announce the debut of the first EVER “Gearys Bridal Dish” (aka “blog”).
I’d like to begin by introducing myself, as I am now your official Gearys blogger! My name is Annie, I have been the Assistant Buyer for Tabletop and Giftware here at Gearys for the past 3 years. Most importantly, I have also had the fabulous experience of being a Gearys Bride! I will be here to guide you through the exciting registry experience (which is the best part of being engaged) and hold your hand through what can be an adventure to say the least.
Creating your wedding registry with your fiancé should be a really fun experience… however it can also be a daunting and overwhelming task when you are quickly handed a scanner gun and a mile-long list filled with words that don’t appear in our every day life…AND you are expected to blindly stumble about the store picking out everything you need for your newlywed home.
This is a sample of what you might see on (da da da!)THE DEPARTMENT STORE REGISTRY LIST
(reading this with your trusty scanner gun in hand!)
Dinnerware:
Chargers (huh???)
Dinner Plates
Salad Plates
Bread & Butter Plates
Tea Cups & Saucers
As a typical twenty-something or thirty-something year old we might find ourselves perplexed, wondering…“Chargers… Hmmm you mean the thing that I plug my Blackberry into? Why would I register for that?”
Here at Gearys, we don’t have scan-guns. We have highly experienced and very patient personal bridal registry consultants who personally guide you and your fiancé through the entire registry experience and explain to you that a “Charger” (aka Service Plate, Presentation Plate, or Buffet Plate) is in fact the larger plate that goes underneath your dinner plate. We will help define the other odd words that you may find on a bridal registry (ie. Ramekin…) Say what?... I know, it’s confusing. That’s what we are here for!
Just FYI… a Charger has MANY functions…
-First of all, it is a tabletop accessory that is used as an addition to the 5 piece place setting. It is basically a chic dish that is placed on the table beneath the dinner plate for style purposes as well as multiple functions. Sized slightly larger than the dinner plate, the style or color of the charger plate frames the dinnerware and enhances the entire table setting.
-Secondly, it can be used as an over-sized dinner plate, especially for us Americans who love to eat! (many of our brides register for these instead of the regular sized dinner plates)
-Thirdly, it can be used as a serving platter for cheese or cookies/ brownies.
-Finally, think about those holiday gatherings you are going to start hosting in the future when you may have too many people. They make an excellent large Buffet plate!
A Ramekin is a small dish used for the preparation and serving of certain food dishes (ie crème brûlée), but I’m sure you’ll come up with many other uses as well (they are a perfect size for a nut or candy dish).
Please feel free to post any questions or comments on this blog and I will be happy to respond and always appreciate your feedback. Also you can follow us on Facebook and Twitter. This is your bridal blogger signing off for now. Stay tuned for our exciting bridal profiles and registry tips as we get this blog up and running.
Xoxo,
Annie
